Switching dog food? Go slow. Switching platforms? Same rule.
What the back of the bag knows
Agency Life 2 min read

I was pouring breakfast for the hounds (François & Hugo) the other morning when the back of the bag stopped me mid-pour. Right there, between the ingredients and the feeding guide, was a little four-bowl chart for switching to a new food:

Nobody tips a fresh bag into the bowl and hopes for the best. Do that and you end up with an unhappy dog and a mess on the lounge carpet. So you go slow, a bit more of the new stuff each day, until one morning it's all they know.
It's simple advice. And it's exactly how we think agencies should move off old web tech.
Why agencies put off the switch
Most agencies we talk to know their stack is holding them back. Sites that take too long to update. Plugins that need babysitting. Hours of maintenance that never make it onto an invoice.
What stops them isn't the destination. It's the move. The picture in their head is a big-bang migration: every client site ripped out on a Monday morning, the team learning a new platform under deadline pressure, and clients noticing when something breaks.
No wonder it keeps getting pushed to next quarter. But that picture is the dog food tipped straight into the bowl. There's a gentler way to do it.
How to wean your agency onto Blutui
The same four-bowl thinking works for your tech stack. You don't switch everything at once. You wean.
Start with one new project on Blutui. Pick a fresh build and keep the legacy stack running for everything else. Your team gets to learn on something real, with nothing old at risk.
Bring the next few builds across. Once the team is comfortable, new work goes onto Blutui by default. The old platform stops growing.
Migrate the sites that cost you the most. Look at which client sites eat the most maintenance time and move those next. That's where you'll feel the difference fastest.
Then one day soon, you’ll look up. The old stuff is gone, along with the hours and margin it was quietly eating.
Gentle, safe, and no upset tummies. For your team or your clients.
We've been eating our own dog food since 2017
Here's the best bit. Blutui has been tested on humans.

Blutui was built inside a working agency. Our own team has been building client sites on it since 2017, with real deadlines, real clients and real change requests at 4.55pm on a Friday. Every rough edge we found, we felt first, and we fixed it because it was costing us too.
So when we say the switch can be gentle, it's because we've lived it.
Time for something better in the bowl
If your tech stack is the kibble your agency puts up with rather than enjoys, let's talk about a switch to premium grade high protein New Zealand grass-fed Angus eye fillet.
We'll help you plan the first bowl, then the next, at whatever pace suits your team and your clients. Book a chat with us and we'll take it from there.
